LAHORE: At least 51 people, including three Rangers personnel, were killed and more than 70 were injured in a suicide blast near Wagah Border on Sunday, police officials and medics said.
Women and children are among the victims.
The death toll is feared to go up as most of those injured are said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, bomb disposal squad was called in to determine the nature of the blast.
In a press statement, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and expressed his grief over loss of precious human lives.
Dr Naeem Ghurki, medical superintendent of the hospital, has confirmed that at least 44 dead bodies have been brought to the facility. "More than 100 people are injured," Dr. Ghurki said.
It could be a suicide attack, IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera said.
CCPO Lahore said that ball bearings and other explosive material was found from the scene.
An eyewitness told SAMAA that the explosion occurred shortly after people walked out of the parade ground.
Eight members of a same family, including two women, their three daughters and an elderly lady, were killed in the blast.
Rescue teams reached at the scene and shifted the dead and injured to Ghurki Hospital, where emergency was imposed.
Every day before sunset soldiers from Pakistan and India gather at the Wagah border crossing, drawing big crowds on both sides, to simultaneously lower the two nations' flags.
