I'm using Android 2.1 and i know that this is very old version now so i decide to update it to 2.3 version but few of my friends updated their Android Phones but they got slow response complain related to their cells, because their cell phone processor are not so compatible to manage or adjusts 3D Apps or enable all effects.
So your phone is getting slow due to update of your android versions. This problem is not get by update all phones, some Android Phones are updated and worked normal.
In some cases when you update you cell phone and there is a error with your installation like disconnected of WiFi or some other problem during Updation of your device then may be you break your device and will never come in normal state.
For saves battery you need to turn OFF 3D scrolling as it get too many energy to run.
